Mount Olive Cemetery
Location
- Mount Olive Cemetery Trust (Westfield, NC)
Project Overview
- Mount Olive Cemetery (Westfield, NC) engaged Wholesale Monument Company to provide and install two 48-niche columbaria to serve a local church community. After the cemetery committee voted to approve the project, the Wholesale Monument Company team coordinated fabrication, logistics and on-site installation with professional installers, a crane service and a trucking company to deliver a completed memorial solution on behalf of the congregation and cemetery stakeholders.
Objectives
- Provide two durable, dignified columbaria (48 niches each) sized and finished to match the cemetery aesthetic and church preferences.
Ensure a smooth permitting/approval process and transparent communication with the cemetery committee.
Complete site preparation, transportation and safe installation with minimal disruption to cemetery operations and the surrounding community.
Deliver a finished product that is low-maintenance and respectful to families using the cemetery.
Key Stakeholders
- Mount Olive Cemetery Committee / Trust — approved design and funding, coordinated community input.
Wholesale Monument Company — design, fabrication, project management and final finishes.
Installation Crew — certified installers who set the units, anchored units to foundation, and completed site restoration.
Crane Service — supplied lifting equipment and certified operator(s) for safe placement.
Trucking Company — transported the columbaria from the fabrication facility to the cemetery site.
Challenges
- Committee Approval & Community Expectations — The project required a formal vote and the support of the cemetery committee before fabrication and site work could proceed.
Site Coordination — Installation within an active cemetery required careful scheduling to avoid conflicts with burials and daily cemetery operations.
Logistics & Handling — Each columbarium is heavy and fragile; safe trucking, off-loading and crane placement were critical.
Site Preparation — A properly engineered concrete pad and drainage considerations were needed to ensure long-term stability and low maintenance.
Weather & Timing — Outdoor installations are weather dependent, so the team had to build contingency into the schedule.
Solution and Execution
- Committee Engagement & Design Approval
After the committee vote approved the project, Wholesale Monument Company moved forward with final drawings and proofs for the columbaria, keeping the Mount Olive Cemetery Trust informed at every step. Clear written proofs and approval processes helped ensure there were no surprises during fabrication.
Site Assessment & Preparation
A site visit established the ideal location within the church cemetery to balance aesthetics, accessibility, and long-term site stability.
The team specified and constructed a reinforced concrete pad sized to manufacturer and installer specifications, with grading and drainage designed to keep water away from the foundation.
Fabrication & Quality Control
The columbaria were fabricated to the agreed-upon specifications (48 niches each) with finishes and inscriptions or accessories as approved by the committee. The production process included quality checks for dimensional accuracy, finish quality, and anchoring points.
Logistics Coordination
A trucking company scheduled transport timed to the installation window. The installation day was coordinated with the crane service so that the crane, truck and installation crew arrived in a tight window to minimize time on site and reduce interference with cemetery operations.
Safe Installation
The crane service lifted each columbarium into place while the installer aligned and anchored the units to the prepared pad. The team followed standard safety protocols and ensured all lifting and rigging met industry standards.
After placement, the installers sealed joints, anchored the units, and performed site cleanup and minor landscaping restoration so the new columbaria blended into the cemetery.
Final Walk-Through & Handover
After installation, Wholesale Monument Company conducted a walk-through with the cemetery committee to verify that the work met specifications and expectations. Final instructions on cleaning and long-term maintenance were provided to cemetery staff and the church.
Outcome
- Successful Delivery: Two (2) 48-niche columbaria were delivered and installed at Mount Olive Cemetery to the satisfaction of the cemetery committee and church community.
Minimal Disruption: Careful scheduling allowed installation with minimal disruption to regular cemetery activities.
Community Impact: The columbaria provided an accessible, dignified option for families choosing cremation, expanding memorial options within the church’s cemetery grounds.
Professional Coordination: The project demonstrated strong coordination among the supplier, installers, crane service and trucking company — delivering a safe, efficient installation following the committee’s approval.
