Wholesale Monument Co., Inc. began operation on Jan. 15, 1976 in Mount Airy, North Carolina, under the leadership of James A. Smith.  WMC started in an old building that formerly housed another monument company.  The company was located in this building for the next twelve years.  As the business grew, equipment improvements and space requirements did the same.  In January 1988, WMC moved to its current location, a building more than twice the size of its first home.  Since that time, the company has, for all intents and purposes, outgrown that building, with additions having been made for storage and an automatic sandblast unit installed January 2005.

The company presently serves more than 20 steady retail dealers located in West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, and in central and western North Carolina, constantly pursuing the highest quality and the most efficient service possible.  

WMC has also been fortunate to see sales to the public increase dramatically over the past few years.  We make no effort to contact families--our advertising budget is $0.00!  We believe our commitments to quality, value, and efficiency have helped make "walk-in" business a stronghold for our company.

In 2007, WMC was blessed to produce more than 1800 memorials, signs, and other stone products.

Though now a part time consultant to the company, Mr. Smith is in his 54st year in the monument industry.  Mr. Smith's son-in-law, Delma Beck, (36 years in the industry and one of the three original employees of the company) now owns the company oversees most of the business operations.
